About the Role

We're looking for a backend engineer who lives and breathes Laravel. You'll build APIs that process millions of Stripe transactions, optimize MySQL queries that make databases purr, and design data pipelines that never miss a beat.

You'll work on real problems: handling webhook storms from Stripe, making complex analytics queries run in milliseconds, and architecting systems that scale gracefully. We work hard, ship often, and celebrate every successful deploy. And when things break? We fix them together, learn from them, and then grab a beer.

What You'll Do

→ Build and maintain Laravel APIs powering our web and mobile apps
→ Design MySQL schemas and write migrations that keep data integrity rock-solid
→ Process millions of Stripe webhooks using AWS Lambda and SQS queues
→ Optimize MySQL and ClickHouse queries for dashboards rendering 100k+ rows
→ Build data transformation pipelines feeding our analytics warehouse
→ Own production systems: deploy, monitor, debug, improve, repeat
→ Collaborate on API design, database architecture, and system scalability

What We're Looking For

→ 4+ years building production backends that handle real traffic
→ Expert-level Laravel and PHP knowledge (Eloquent, migrations, queues, events)
→ Deep MySQL skills—you know your indexes from your joins, and your N+1s scare you
→ Experience designing RESTful APIs that frontends actually enjoy using
→ Comfort with asynchronous processing, job queues, and event-driven architectures
→ Solid understanding of web security, data privacy, and best practices
→ Strong communication—you can explain complex systems in simple terms

Bonus Points

→ Stripe API integration experience—you've handled webhooks, idempotency, retries
→ AWS Lambda, SQS, or serverless architecture experience
→ ClickHouse, Redshift, or analytics database experience
→ Built or maintained ETL/data pipeline systems
→ Some frontend familiarity (TypeScript, React)—you get the full picture
→ Early-stage startup experience—you've built things from scratch before

Compensation & Benefits

→ Salary: £110,000 - £145,000 based on experience
