7 Best ProfitWell Alternatives in 2026 (After the Paddle Acquisition)

Matt Smith
By Matt Smith, Co-Founder & CEO · Updated July 2026
The short answer

ProfitWell Metrics is still free under Paddle, but its own help docs allow up to 90 minutes of lag and reviewers describe an interface frozen in time. For live Stripe numbers with real mobile apps, Mowt ($79/month) is our pick. Need to stay at $0? ChartMogul is free under $120K ARR.

First, the question everyone arrives with: what happened to ProfitWell? Paddle bought it in May 2022 for $200 million, and the dashboard now lives on as ProfitWell Metrics by Paddle. It's still free. Paddle keeps it that way because it funnels users toward its paid billing and retention products, and for a $0 tool it covers a lot: MRR, churn, LTV, cohorts, plus benchmarking against 30,000+ subscription companies.

Free hasn't meant maintained, though. Paddle's own help docs say customer changes made manually or via the API can take up to 90 minutes to show in your metrics. Capterra reviewers describe an interface without significant updates in over five years and reporting locked to monthly granularity when they wanted weekly.

G2 and Capterra reviewers both report mobile payment alerts that simply don't arrive, and one long-time G2 reviewer described a 10x price increase on the paid Paddle side after a support ticket.

So the real decision in 2026 runs along one axis: free versus fresh. If a 90-minute-old number never costs you anything, a free batch dashboard is rational, and the honest free answer is now ChartMogul, not ProfitWell. The moment a stale number does cost you (a failed payment caught late, a churned customer still showing active on a board call), you're shopping the paid end of this list. We ranked all seven with that trade-off in mind.

How we evaluated

Freshness figures come from each vendor's own documentation and help articles: Mowt updates from Stripe webhooks in seconds (we run it on our own account), ChartMogul documents a 10-minute processing window, Paddle's docs allow up to 90 minutes for ProfitWell changes, and Putler reviewers report a 15-30 minute lag.

Every price on this page was re-read from the vendor's live pricing page on July 1, 2026, and review scores are quoted with their platform, count and date. Mowt is our product; we say so again in its entry.

The list

Every tool, in detail.

1.

Mowt

Best for realtime Stripe metrics on your phone
Our product

Mowt is our product, so grade this entry accordingly: it replaces a 90-minute batch dashboard with numbers that move seconds after Stripe does.

Mowt listens to Stripe webhooks, so a new subscription, an upgrade or a failed payment lands on your dashboard in seconds. That's the specific gap ProfitWell users feel most: Paddle's docs allow up to 90 minutes for changes to appear, and in our June 2026 timing test Mowt showed a test cancellation before ProfitWell's next batch had even started.

Setup is a one-click read-only Stripe OAuth, and your full billing history backfills in minutes, covering MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, ARPU, NRR, cohorts and forecasting.

The mobile story is the other half. ProfitWell has iOS and Android apps, but reviewers on G2 and Capterra report payment alerts that fail to fire. Mowt's native iOS and Android apps carry full feature parity with the web dashboard, every chart and every cohort view, which no other tool on this list matches. 500+ founders track over $1B in revenue on it, at 99.9% uptime.

Now the disclosure paired with the honest limits. Mowt is Stripe-only: no Paddle, Chargebee or multi-source consolidation, so if you bill outside Stripe, skip ahead. Dunning and churn-busting tools are coming soon, not shipped, so there's no ProfitWell Retain equivalent today.

And we're younger than everything else here, with a smaller third-party review footprint, so don't take our word for the numbers: run the 7-day trial next to your Stripe dashboard and check they match.

PricingStartup $79/month up to $15k MRR, Growth $149 to $50k, Scale $249 to $100k, Pro $349 to $250k; 20% off annual. 7-day free trial, no card (as of July 2026; full tiers on <a href="/pricing" class="text-accent hover:underline">pricing</a>).
Start 7-day free trial
Where it shines
  • Realtime updates via Stripe webhooks; changes appear in seconds, not on a batch cycle
  • Native iOS and Android apps with full feature parity, unique on this list
  • One-click read-only Stripe OAuth with full history backfill in minutes
  • Flat MRR-tier pricing with no per-seat charges or paid add-ons
Where it falls short
  • Stripe-only; no Paddle, Chargebee or multi-source support (our own disclosed limitation)
  • Dunning and churn-recovery tools are on the roadmap, not shipped
  • Smaller third-party review footprint than the incumbents; verify numbers against Stripe during the trial
2. Baremetrics

Baremetrics

Best for a paid suite with dunning built in

Baremetrics is the closest like-for-like replacement for ProfitWell: 28+ metrics, four billing sources and a real dunning add-on, from $75/month.

If what you liked about ProfitWell was the everything-in-one-dashboard shape, Baremetrics is its paid sibling. It tracks 28+ subscription metrics across Stripe, Braintree, Recurly and Chargebee, sends scheduled email and Slack digests, and its Recover add-on does actual dunning work, which ProfitWell only offers through Paddle's separate paid Retain product.

G2 reviewers rate it 4.6/5 across 98 reviews (February 2026), with consistent praise for the UI and support.

The trade-offs are documented rather than rumored. Baremetrics' own help center describes a 2-hour data sync cycle, so it beats ProfitWell's worst-case lag without getting anywhere near realtime. Pricing climbs fast: Launch is $75/month to $360K ARR, Growth jumps to $255, Scale to $1,152, and Recover plus Cancellation Insights add $129/month each.

Capterra's small review set (3.3/5 from 3 reviews) clusters around data accuracy complaints, including duplicate entries across sources, and Hacker News users who left cite a slow visible roadmap since Xenon Partners acquired the company for $4M in November 2020. Mobile is iOS only, with no Android app as of June 2026.

Pricing$75/month (Launch, to $360K ARR), $255 (Growth, to $3.6M), $1,152 (Scale); Recover and Cancellation Insights $129/month each; 35% annual discount (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • Broadest metric suite in the mid-market tier, 28+ metrics in one dashboard
  • Recover dunning add-on recovers failed payments, which most tools here lack
  • Supports Stripe, Braintree, Recurly and Chargebee in one view
  • G2 4.6/5 across 98 reviews (February 2026) with strong marks for UI and support
Where it falls short
  • Data syncs on a 2-hour cycle per its own help center, despite realtime marketing
  • Capterra reviewers report inconsistent metrics and duplicate entries when combining sources
  • iOS app only; nothing on the Play Store as of June 2026
  • Hacker News commenters who switched away attribute a slower roadmap to the 2020 private-equity acquisition
3. ChartMogul

ChartMogul

Best free option under $120K ARR

ChartMogul, not ProfitWell, is now the honest free answer: core metrics at $0 until you pass $120K ARR, plus the deepest cohort analysis in the category.

Here's the part most "ProfitWell alternatives" lists bury: if you searched because you want free, ChartMogul's Launch tier gives you real subscription analytics at $0 up to $120K ARR, from a company that's still independent (founded 2014, never acquired) and actively developed.

Its cohort analysis and segmentation go deeper than anything else on this page, cutting by signup month, plan, geography and custom attributes, and it consolidates 25+ billing sources into one normalized revenue line. Capterra reviewers score it 4.7/5 across 44 reviews.

Freshness sits between the extremes: ChartMogul's help docs describe Stripe data as realtime with a 10-minute processing window, while Braintree and HubSpot sync hourly and PayPal every 3 hours. That comfortably beats ProfitWell's 90-minute worst case.

The catches come later: reviewers on G2 describe prices that doubled and then doubled again, costs climb with each ARR band (Starter alone reaches $849/month at the top, $699 on annual billing), and both G2 and Capterra reviewers mention sync discrepancies against their billing system that needed manual reconciliation.

The mobile apps exist on both platforms, but the Android app trails iOS badly, missing chart sharing and multi-account support as of its November 2025 update.

PricingFree under $120K ARR; Starter $69 to $849/month by ARR band, or $59 to $699 on annual billing; Pro $99 to $1,199/month; Enterprise from $19,900/year; 17% annual discount (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • Free Launch tier under $120K ARR, the most generous entry point in the market
  • Best-in-class cohort analysis and segmentation
  • 25+ billing integrations for multi-source revenue consolidation
  • Capterra 4.7/5 across 44 reviews, praised for UI and visualization quality
Where it falls short
  • G2 reviewers document repeated price increases, with costs scaling linearly as ARR grows
  • Reviewers on both G2 and Capterra report sync discrepancies requiring manual reconciliation
  • Android app has significantly fewer features than iOS per the vendor's own listings
4. Chartsy

Chartsy

Best for asking your revenue questions in plain English

Chartsy swaps preset dashboards for an AI chat box: type "MRR by plan since January" and get a chart back, with both Stripe and Paddle supported.

Chartsy is the newest idea on this list. Instead of learning someone else's dashboard layout, you ask questions in natural language and it generates the chart, the trend commentary and a PDF or PNG export you can drop into a board deck.

It computes MRR, ARR, churn, LTV and expansion revenue from raw invoice data across Stripe, Paddle and BigCommerce, and it's built by a solo-founder-scale team (founded by Serena Prifti) explicitly for operators without a data analyst.

Treat it as a promising newcomer rather than a proven system. Per its own help docs, BigCommerce and Paddle Classic sync hourly, so the realtime claim only holds for Stripe and Paddle Billing.

There's no mobile app, and the review footprint is close to zero: we found no substantial G2 or Capterra presence as of June 2026, so the favorable comparisons you'll read are mostly Chartsy's own blog. Pricing is also partly opaque; the free tier gives 10 prompts a month and paid plans are referenced from $19/month, but Pro and Enterprise prices sit behind a signup wall.

PricingFree tier with 10 prompts/month; paid plans referenced from $19/month; Pro (200 prompts/month) and Enterprise pricing unpublished (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • Natural-language querying, no SQL and no dashboard configuration
  • Covers Paddle as well as Stripe, useful if you're staying inside the Paddle ecosystem
  • Clean PDF and PNG chart exports for investor updates
Where it falls short
  • Hourly sync on BigCommerce and Paddle Classic per its own help docs, despite realtime positioning
  • Almost no independent review footprint on G2 or Capterra as of June 2026
  • Pro and Enterprise pricing not published; only "from $19/month" is referenced publicly
  • Web only, no mobile apps
5. Fincome

Fincome

Best for finance teams that want KPIs treated like accounting

Fincome approaches subscription metrics as a finance function: automated MRR, churn and cohort calculations with no per-seat pricing, from $4,500/year.

Fincome (founded 2022 in France, seed-backed by Accel) sells to the finance team rather than the founder's phone. It automates KPI calculation across MRR, ARR, churn, CAC, LTV and renewals without SQL, connects to Stripe, Pennylane, NetSuite, HubSpot and Salesforce, and now processes over 100 million invoice lines daily for 200+ SaaS customers.

There are no per-seat charges on its published price list, which matters when finance, go-to-market and customer success all want the same numbers. Capterra reviewers repeatedly single out the responsive team and the pace of shipping.

The honesty check: much of the integration catalog is aspirational. Chargebee, QuickBooks, Xero, Recurly, Braintree and Slack are all marked "coming soon" on Fincome's own integrations page as of June 2026.

Capterra reviewers also note the $4,500/year floor stings for early-stage companies, that spreadsheet migrations took more manual effort than the automation pitch suggests, and that it lacks the multi-entity, multi-currency views enterprises need. There's no mobile app, and the exact data-refresh cycle isn't documented publicly, only a realtime claim.

Pricing$4,500/year under $1M ARR, $6,000 to $3M, $9,000 to $5M, $12,000 to $7M, $15,000 to $10M; custom above that. No per-seat charges appear on the published price list (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • No per-seat charges on the published price list; unlimited data exports
  • Automated KPI engine aimed at finance rigor, not just dashboards
  • Fast-moving roadmap; Capterra reviewers praise support responsiveness
  • NetSuite, Salesforce and HubSpot connections alongside Stripe
Where it falls short
  • Most advertised integrations still marked "coming soon" on its own integrations page (June 2026)
  • Capterra reviewers call the $4,500/year entry price a barrier for early-stage startups
  • No mobile app, and the actual refresh interval is undocumented
6. Putler

Putler

Best for mixed subscription and eCommerce revenue

Putler consolidates 17+ payment and store channels, PayPal to Etsy to Stripe, from $20/month, and has run bootstrapped and profitable since 2007.

ProfitWell never had an answer for revenue that isn't pure subscriptions. Putler does: it merges Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, eBay and a dozen more sources into one dashboard, deduplicates and currency-converts automatically, and layers RFM segmentation (11 automatic customer segments) on top of standard MRR and churn tracking.

At $20/month up to $10K MRR it's also the cheapest paid entry on this list, and Capterra reviewers rate it 4.8/5 across 32 reviews, frequently citing five-minute setup.

It's an eCommerce tool that does SaaS, not the reverse. Reviewers describe the SaaS metrics as "not their strongest feature", a verified Capterra review measures the payment-data lag at 15 to 30 minutes.

There's no mobile app; several reviewers call the mobile browser experience buggy enough that they pinned a home-screen shortcut instead. Some also report support waits stretching to three weeks, which contrasts with the otherwise strong service reputation.

Pricing$20/month up to $10K MRR, scaling to $2,250/month at $3-5M MRR; 14-day trial, no card; 50% nonprofit discount (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • Cheapest paid entry point on this list at $20/month
  • 17+ revenue sources unified, with automatic dedupe and currency conversion
  • RFM segmentation built in, useful beyond pure subscription metrics
  • Capterra 4.8/5 across 32 reviews; bootstrapped and stable since 2007
Where it falls short
  • 15-30 minute payment lag per a verified Capterra review
  • No mobile app; reviewers describe the mobile browser experience as rough
  • Reviewers say SaaS-specific metrics take a back seat to eCommerce breadth
7. Maxio

Maxio

Best for enterprise billing and metrics in one contract

Maxio bundles usage-based billing, GAAP revenue recognition and SaaS metrics into one platform, at $599/month minimum and an implementation measured in months.

Maxio isn't really a ProfitWell replacement; it's what companies graduate to when analytics alone stops being the job. Formed from the 2022 merger of SaaSOptics and Chargify under Battery Ventures, it now serves 2,300+ customers managing roughly $10 billion in ARR, with 85+ native integrations (Salesforce, NetSuite, QuickBooks, 20+ payment gateways), unlimited seats, and ASC 606-compliant revenue recognition as an add-on.

G2 rates it 4.3/5 across 829 reviews and names it a Leader in six subscription categories.

The reviews are equally clear about the cost of that breadth. G2 and TrustRadius reviewers report onboarding stretching past 10 months for smaller companies, support cases left open for six months to a year with extra help sold in $1,000+ hour bundles, and recurring invoice errors on usage-based billing.

One reviewer reported churn and MRR metrics that were simply wrong for years before being caught. If your need is metrics rather than billing infrastructure, everything above it on this list gets you there faster and far cheaper.

PricingGrow at $599/month up to $100k MRR; Scale is custom-quoted above that; implementation fees additional (as of July 2026).
Where it shines
  • Billing, revenue recognition and metrics in a single vendor relationship
  • 85+ native integrations including NetSuite, Salesforce and Sage Intacct
  • Unlimited user seats at no extra cost
  • G2 Leader in six subscription-software categories (4.3/5, 829 reviews)
Where it falls short
  • Reviewers report implementations running 10+ months for small companies
  • Support complaints on G2 and TrustRadius include long-open cases and paid support-hour bundles
  • Users report recurring invoice inaccuracies with usage-based billing; one cited years of wrong churn and MRR figures
  • No mobile apps; web only
Run the numbers

What staying free actually costs

Free has a price; it's just paid in hours. Say you're at $25K MRR on ProfitWell Metrics. With a documented lag of up to 90 minutes, anyone who cares about today's number ends up cross-checking the Stripe dashboard by hand. Fifteen minutes a day of reconciling, across 22 working days, is roughly 5.5 hours a month; at even a modest $100/hour founder rate that's $550/month spent double-checking a $0 tool.

Compare that against $149/month for Mowt's Growth tier with numbers that don't need checking.

The lag bites harder on involuntary churn: a $500/month customer's failed payment that surfaces a batch late is real money on a free dashboard.

And if the budget genuinely is zero, the answer isn't a stale dashboard you audit by hand, it's ChartMogul's free tier under $120K ARR, which processes Stripe data inside a 10-minute window. Plug your own numbers into the MRR calculator to see what a month of stale data is worth at your scale.

Run your numbers in the MRR calculator
Decision framework

How to choose: the free vs fresh axis

Forget feature checklists for a second. The question that actually sorts this list is: how much does a 90-minute-old number cost you, and who needs to see the live one? Answer that and your pick falls out.

If a stale number costs you nothing, stay at the free end. ChartMogul under $120K ARR is the strongest $0 product in the category, and Chartsy's free tier suits occasional plain-English questions. ProfitWell Metrics itself remains defensible here too, if you can live with its pace of change.

If a stale number costs you money or credibility, pay for freshness. Mowt is the only tool on this list where Stripe events land in seconds and the phone app shows everything the web does; that's the operator-checking-revenue-daily profile. Baremetrics fits if you also want dunning shipped today and can accept its 2-hour cycle.

And if your problem outgrew analytics, match the specialist: Putler when revenue spans marketplaces and stores, Fincome when a finance team owns the numbers, Maxio when billing infrastructure and revenue recognition are the actual purchase and metrics come along for the ride.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What happened to ProfitWell?

Paddle acquired ProfitWell in May 2022 for $200 million. The analytics product survives as ProfitWell Metrics by Paddle and remains free, acting as a funnel into Paddle's paid billing and retention tools. The founding team and product direction now sit inside Paddle rather than an independent company.

Is ProfitWell still free after the Paddle acquisition?

Yes. ProfitWell Metrics remains completely free as of July 2026; Paddle monetizes through its separate billing and Retain products. Be careful on the paid side though: one long-time G2 reviewer reported a 10x price increase on paid Paddle services after a support ticket.

Is ProfitWell Metrics real-time?

No. It runs a batch model, and Paddle's own help docs state that customers added or edited manually or via the API can take up to 90 minutes to reflect in metrics. Webhook-based tools like Mowt show the same Stripe change in seconds.

What is the best free ProfitWell alternative?

ChartMogul. Its Launch tier is free until you pass $120K ARR and includes core MRR, churn and cohort metrics with a documented 10-minute Stripe processing window, far fresher than ProfitWell's 90-minute worst case. Chartsy also offers a free tier, limited to 10 AI prompts per month.

Does ProfitWell have a good mobile app?

It has native iOS and Android apps with home-screen widgets, but reviewers on G2 and Capterra report that payment-problem notifications don't reliably arrive. If mobile is the priority, Mowt ships iOS and Android apps with full feature parity; see the mobile apps.

Is QuantLedger still a ProfitWell alternative?

No. QuantLedger shut down in late 2025 or early 2026; its sunset page gives no reason and no migration path, only a link to the founder's development agency. Any list still recommending it is out of date. Treat vendor longevity as a real evaluation criterion.

How much does Baremetrics cost compared to ProfitWell?

ProfitWell Metrics is free; Baremetrics starts at $75/month up to $360K ARR, rising to $255 and then $1,152 at higher ARR bands, with dunning and cancellation add-ons at $129/month each (July 2026). You're paying for the Recover dunning workflow and a 2-hour sync instead of 90 minutes.

Can I run a ProfitWell alternative alongside ProfitWell Metrics?

Yes, and you should. Every tool here connects to Stripe read-only, so nothing conflicts. Run the new tool in parallel for a week, then diff its MRR and churn figures against both ProfitWell and the Stripe dashboard before you commit. Trials make this free to test.

Why do MRR numbers differ between ProfitWell and other tools?

Each vendor normalizes annual plans, discounts, proration and refunds differently, so small gaps are expected rather than bugs. Check each tool's definition against our MRR glossary entry, pick the definition your board uses, and hold every tool to it.

What is the cheapest paid ProfitWell alternative?

Putler at $20/month (up to $10K MRR), though it's eCommerce-first. Chartsy references paid plans from $19/month but hides full pricing behind signup. For subscription-focused tools, ChartMogul's Starter begins at $59/month and Mowt at $79/month, both as of July 2026.

Does ProfitWell work with Paddle billing?

Yes, that's now its home turf; it also integrates Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora, Recurly and others. If you bill through Paddle and stay free, keeping Metrics is reasonable. The alternatives on this list matter most for Stripe-billing teams who've hit its lag, UI or notification limits.

Is Mowt a full replacement for ProfitWell Metrics?

For Stripe-billing SaaS, yes: it covers MRR, churn, LTV, cohorts and forecasting with realtime updates and full mobile apps, from $79/month. It is not a replacement if you bill outside Stripe, and its dunning tools are coming soon rather than shipped. Mowt is our product; test it against your Stripe data.
